As founder of the Golden-Oldies charity, Grenville Jones was asked to represent the Big Lottery Jubilee People's Millions at the Queen's Jubilee Garden Party at Buckingham Palace on Tuesday May 22nd. Last year the Goldies charity - which brings smiles through singing to hundreds of isolated people - won a Big Lottery (public vote) grant to run an inter-generational schools project called Jubilee Time after Time. Grenville invited Bath housewife Tessa Cox to attend with him as his guest. Tessa composed a song called Diamond Day for the Jubilee Time after Time project which schools across the UK are downloading to sing as part of their Jubilee celebrations.
Grenville and Tessa were presented to Her Majesty The Queen who spoke to them for 3 minutes. Grenville said: "The Queen wanted to know all about our Charity and the way it engages with people who live in isolation. Tessa told her all about the song she had composed to celebrate The Queen's Diamond Jubilee, to which the reply came - how wonderful!"
The following day BBC Points West were at Colerne Primary School filming a group of Chippenham Goldies who spent a morning at the school singing with the children and recording a choir of over 300 children and Goldies performing 'Diamond Day.' Above left - Tessa Cox takes another press call!

The Jubilee People's Millions was a nationwide BIG Lottery initiative where charities and other community organisations were given the chance to win project funding. This has previously been known as The People's Millions but the word Jubilee was been added to mark the Queen's 60 year reign celebrations next June. Our project was one of four in the West Region to be selected.
What is Jubilee Time after Time?
Jubilee Time after Time aims to break down fears and prejudices between old and young, and helps the generations understand each other. We aim to do this by encouraging schools to open their doors to older people within the local community, and engage pupils and older people in inter-generational projects to celebrate the Jubilee together.

We want to hear from ALL SCHOOLS across the West Region so we can tell you how you can get involved in this exciting project. Many of you will already have school projects that link you with the elderly in your communities. We would like to talk to you about how you could incorporate Jubilee Time after Time or how you might like to consider introducing a project between now and the celebration of the Queen's Jubilee in June 2012. Above are some suggestions on inter-generational projects, but we welcome your ideas. There will be awards for the most innovative and we would be delighted to tell you about these. Perhaps your school project could be based on a drama that looks back at the last 60 years of The Queen's reign, or one that asks elderly folk to bring in their photographs to discuss with your pupils? Young and young at heart taking a walk down "Memory Lane?" Remember that people who are now in their 70s were still at school when the Queen succeeded to the throne. Golden-Oldies is a charity that is based on singing and if you contact us, we can send you a copy of the information leaflet on Jubilee Time after Time or you can download by clicking on the link below. Jubilee Time after Time takes forward a highly successful project in 2010 from Golden-Oldies which saw over 30 schools in Bath & North East Somerset take part. It brought together hundreds of young people and the elderly in schools. The Charity Golden-Oldies is making a huge difference to the lives of the elderly and isolated. BRINGING TOGETHER THE YOUNG WITH THE YOUNG AT HEART
The ethos of Golden-Oldies is to promote and sustain independence in the growing elderly UK population under the banner ‘Sing for Life.’ Launched in 2008, we organise singing and stretching sessions across the West of England to give people, some who may be lonely and vulnerable, social events and concerts to look forward to and enjoy. Many of our weekly sessions are attended by people with learning difficulties and dementia. Goldies is for everyone and the power of music knows no boundaries. Through the fun daytime singing sessions and other organised events we bring together people and promote social cohesion. This charity is brightening the lives of thousands of people.
